I've been neglecting my blog ever since I got tumblr. But I still love my blog because I feel like I can rant about stuff more than on tumblr.

Oh my I haven't updated in a while. Well here's what happened since my last post. I finished my nesting dolls, they were at Rothick Art Haus gallery in Anaheim for the past month and I sold them, YAY!!! here's some pics :)

This is something I am working on for a group show “Amores Muertos” at the end of the month. I am really inspired by statues and paintings of saints. Her cloak thingy will be mostly black. Her hands are going to be replaced with skeleton looking hands. I gave her normal ones in this drawing because I didn’t have the proper reference when I drew it. I can’t wait to start painting :)

I've been doing a lot of research on the native people of Mexico. I guess I got kind of curious about my family history and how much we don't know about our native american ancestors. It makes me sad how much of our culture got lost during the Spanish conquest. Here's a piece I did inspired by Aztec art.

I just realized I didn't post a full shot of this painting. So here it is. I was inspired by Bloody Mary, specifically the version based on Mary Tudor. This is my interpretation of what her reflection looks like when she appears in the mirror. It was part of a group show at Rothick Art Huas this past month. The show rocked and I am so happy I was a part of it!

I was super inspired after visiting the natural history museum for the millionth time the other day. I love visiting the gem exhibit and I am especially fond of the opals that reside there. Every time I go I always take tons of pictures. So I thought it would be neat if some of my ghosts had opal eyes.

While I was airbrushing a doll the other day I forgot to cover my hand and I ended up airbrushing my finger tips black. That's how I got the idea for this little illustration. There will be more frost bitten hands to come.

I've been working on a lot of stuff lately. Three new paintings for a group show in May and a custom Blythe doll that will be up for sale some time in June. I'm also working on a website for my art. I'm really excited about it. Especially because I thought I wasn't going to be able to use my name for the address, irenegarcia.com was already taken. I spent a month trying to figure out what I was going to use when my boyfriend suggested I add a - in between Irene and Garcia, DUH!!!! Here's a little preview of one of my paintings :D

Here's a small update on what I've been working on lately. I finished these girls, London and Pyro, for Tu Sabes Blythe two weeks ago. I kept forgetting to post them here. They were a lot of fun to work on because their face ups are so different from what I'm use to doing. That's why I love working with other people, it gets me out of my routine and I try and learn new things!!! These pictures were taken by Joey and he kindly let me use them for my portfolio, so no stealing please! Currently I'm working on three new illustrations, a childrens book that's very close to being finished and a Custom Pullip doll so hopefully I'll have stuff to post soon!!!

I customized my Candy Carnival over the weekend. Her name is Isolee. I did a light face up on her. Nothing to crazy like I'm used to. She looks much better I think. I'm not to fond on shiny faces.
